Dr William Yan is a consultant ophthalmologist specialising in diseases of the retina and vitreous, as well as vitreoretinal surgery. He has particular expertise in managing complex cataracts and conditions affecting the back of the eye, including diabetic eye disease, age-related macular degeneration, macular holes, epiretinal membranes, vitreous haemorrhage, vitreomacular traction, and retinal detachment.

Dr Yan is a consultant ophthalmologist at the Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital and is also actively involved in research at the Centre for Eye Research Australia (CERA), University of Melbourne. His research work has been published in over 30 peer-reviewed medical journals, helping to improve the understanding and treatment of retinal eye diseases.

He completed his medical degree at Monash University, followed by postgraduate research training in ophthalmology at the University of Melbourne. Dr Yan also undertook further study in bioinformatics at Stanford University in the United States as a Fulbright Scholar. He completed his specialist ophthalmology training at the Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital and went on to complete advanced subspecialty fellowships in medical retina and vitreoretinal surgery in Australia and the United Kingdom.
